VILLA MARIA LEGLER

Located in a glorious park close to Bergamo, in Ponte San Pietro, VILLA MARIA is a fine example of pseudo-romantic architecture. The entire complex stands out for it’s very high level of prestige, thanks to the noble architectural structure of the building, the materials and installations with which it was built, the vast Italian garden with centuries-old trees, the presence of the swimming pool and the characteristic greenhouse, the overall homogeneous context for the urban and architectural layout of high quality and care.

VILLA MARIA was designed between 1894 and 1895 by the Swiss architect Othmar Josef Schnyder on behalf of the Legler Family. It was built starting from 1896 and inaugurated on 30 May 1898.

VILLA MARIA is located within an awesome park of about 10,000 sqm; it is endowed with a powerful structure and at the same time does not disdain neoclassical references in the abundant and refined decorative apparatus.

The compact volume is rigorously contained in a parallelepiped shape; the peculiar flat roof offers a magnificent solarium with a turret that stands out on two levels beyond the roof and constitutes a supporting element of the composition of the west front and of the mighty main entrance.

The area of the park is about 10300 sqm, the area of ​​the building is about 1950 sqm with the addition of 100 sqm of the greenhouse, the total area is about 2050 sqm; the overall volume is about 6850 cubic meters and the possibility of a volumetric increase is foreseen. A space used as a landing and take-off field for helicopters is located within the park.

 

 

CONTEXT

VILLA MARIA is located in Ponte San Pietro, Bergamo.
The area is well served by roads, rail and airport infrastructures: Milan Orio al Serio airport is 10 km away and the train station is only 500 m away. In the immediate proximity there’s the Bergamo Golf Club “L’Albenza”, the European Romanesque Antenna and several ski areas.
